ROUGH TRADE COMPETITION, THE WINNERS !
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of famous music label Rough Trade, Cqfd.com organized a big competition. Each participant had to choose a song among Rough Trade’s catalog to propose a cover.
More than 130 amazing Smiths, Sufjan Stevens, Libertines and many others’ covers had been collected on the website. At the end, the winner is a 14 year old boy with a sensitive voice which hides an impressive maturity named Zak Laughed who beautifully skinned to the bones The End Has No End by the Strokes. He will make a 45 T on the Rough Trade label on September, so that he will be the first French artist to receive such a distinction since… Métal Urbain who did the same thirty years ago.
Choosing only one winner was such a struggle for the jury – actually, the boss of Rough Trade label Geoff Travis and JD Beauvallet from Les Inrockuptibles – that they made a compilation with the 18 best covers.
You can download the whole compilation for free HERE or via the podcast (using i-tunes for instance) HERE.
